What is RPG Maker Dungeon?
RPG Maker Dungeon started as a series of posts on the social media platform Cohost meant to highlight games made in the RPG Maker engine. Just before Cohost died in early October, I made a copy of these posts. I will be posting them here, along with future installments if I stumble across other cool games in the future.
Is RPG Maker Dungeon only for RPG Maker games?
Believe it or not, no! If an RPG is made in a hobbyist engine that requires little coding, I believe it is eligible. I will make future calls as I see them. There is a intangible spirit uniting these various games.
Why haven't you written about this game on RPG Maker Dungeon?
I haven't had the chance to yet. There are plenty of interesting games worth writing about that I have not covered. Additionally, while I like most of the games that I've written about on RPG Maker Dungeon, I'm definitely up for writing about games I dislike if there's something neat to dig into.
Where can I find RPG Maker games?
rpgmaker.net used to be the home of RPG Maker on the internet, but the website has been down as of late. I recommend trying the rpgmaker.net game archive available on the Internet Archive. There are also several great titles available on itch.io.
If you're specifically looking for RPG Maker games in Japanese, I recommend checking out freem, https://freegame-mugen.jp or Vector.
What are your favorite RPG Maker games?
A few I like a lot: Ruina: Fairy Tale of the Forgotten Ruins, Hat World: New Testament, The Way, Hero's Realm, Dhux's Scar, Helen's Mysterious Castle.
